Top 5 Books For Healing The Spirit
70
I spend a lot of my spare time reading. I have a tremendous love of reading. I am a self help junkie and believe in searching out different ways for healing myself.
I started to search for truths about the Universe, my place in it and healing my body, mind and spirit about ten years ago. In that time I've amassed books and websites along the way.
Let me tell you about five books that have given me answers in various forms and helped to allay my fears when I needed it. As I’ve said, I have many books on my bookshelf but these five will be a good place to start.
- Angel Medicine: How to Heal the Body and Mind With the Help Of the Angels by Doreen Virtue http://www.angeltherapy.com/
- The Shack by William P. Young http://theshackbook.com/
- The Language of Letting Go by Melody Beattie http://www.melodybeattie.com/
- Don't Sweat the Small Stuff--and it's all small stuff by Richard Carlson http://dontsweat.com/
- There’s a Spiritual Solution To Every Problem by Wayne Dyer http://www.drwaynedyer.com/
In Angel Medicine: How to Heal the Body and Mind With the Help Of the Angels, Doreen Virtue who is a clairvoyant and healer offers ways that we can heal our bodies and mind with the help of the angels. Yes, angels do exist. You do not have to be a believer. There’s a big spiritual world that exists and angels are always willing to offer guidance if we ask for it. They cannot give assistance otherwise because we have free will. There are stories and steps to help you heal yourself or someone else.
A few examples from the book…….You can heal someone or yourself by visualizing the colour around the person. Another way to use colour is to ask that colour to surround you or the person that you’re trying to heal.
- Purple light is used to heal dis-eases such as Cancer.
- White light closes wounds
- Pale blue light cleanses and detoxifies the body
- Golden light allows the 3rd eye and body to open but only after it has been cleansed with purple, white and pale blue light.
A great tip for healers such as doctors, nurses etc, use olive oil to wash your hands at the end of the day. It helps you to clear yourself.
In The Shack, the main character Mack, experiences a tragedy. His daughter Missy, is taken during a camping trip with the family. The search turns up nothing until the police find evidence of her disappearance in an abandoned shack in Oregon. During his darkest hours, he receives a note that he believes is from GOD asking him to come to the shack.
There at the shack, he finds GOD, and asks all the questions he ever wanted answers to about his daughter, life and the reason for living. He makes an interesting connection that he believed that he’d lost.
It’s a fresh approach to how the Bible sees GOD. We focus so much energy on punishment for so called sins but everything, even the most horrifying has it place and reason for happening. If you enjoy reading with an open mind then this book will be a good read.
The Language of Letting Go, is a book of daily meditations. It came to me when I was going through my separation. I say came to me because most of the spiritual books that I have around me each have a special meaning and showed up at the opportune time. I knew that it was the Universe guiding and loving me. I found this book during a search of a book store that was going out of business. One look inside its covers and I knew that I wanted it on my bookshelf.
It’s like a calendar style with a meditation for each day of the month. Since it’s for co-dependants which I had no idea about at the time, it talks about boundaries, limits, self-care, family, friendship etc, etc.
It’s all about positive affirmations in being who you are. The book is a reminder to me that I don’t have to try to be me. I just am. It’s not what I do, it’s who I am inside that matters. That’s the real me.
People may look at me and see one thing but that’s their subjective view. I don’t have to impress anyone. I can be myself. Real. The time here is short and the happier I feel, the better my experiences will be.
A meditation from Melody Beattie for May 6…….
Feeling Good
Make yourself feel good.
It’s our job to first make ourselves feel better and then make ourselves feel good. Recovery is not only about stopping painful feelings; it’s about creating a good life for ourselves.
We don’t have to deny ourselves activities that help us feel good. Going to meetings, basking in the sun, exercising, taking a walk, or spending time with a friend are activities that may help us feel good. We each have our list. If we don’t, we’re now free to explore, experiment, and develop that list.
When we find a behaviour or activity that produces a good feeling, put it on the list. Then, do it frequently.
Let’s stop denying ourselves good feelings and start doing things that make us feel good.
Today, I will do one activity or behaviour that I know will create a good feeling for me. If I’m uncertain about what I like, I will experiment with one behaviour today.
Don't Sweat the Small Stuff--and it's all small stuff, is a reminder that everything, every, single, thing is small stuff. Often I find myself upset or feeling low and when I pick this book up, it puts things back into perspective for me. I then readjust my attitude and look at my life or the situation in a more open way.
Dr. Wayne Dyer is a phenomenal motivational speaker. I listened to his cd’s and watched him on PBS numerous times. One of my favourite cd is The Power of Intention. He speaks truths that will resonate with you once you listen to him. In his book There’s a Spiritual Solution to Every Problem, he looks at solving problems from a spiritual perspective. It’s a pretty deep book that encourages you to drop the ego self and live from the higher self.
He quotes parts of this famous prayer from Saint Francis of Assisi that explains how we should view life.
………….grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console,
To be understood, as to understand,
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;
It is in dying to self that we are born to eternal life.
I find all five books to be immensely empowering and life confirming. They bring me hope that all that I see before me is not what this life is about. The material ego driven self has to be replaced before our higher self can come forward. When we let go of that ego self then the real higher self emerges and we see life as it truly can be.

Nice hub, I used to read a bit of these types of books. Through the years Wayne Dyer was the guy that seemed like he knew how to take control of life but I was already doing much of what he talked about. Still we all need a little direction at times. I wish you peace in your life, remember music can be good for the soul!! Every time I'm trying to figure life out a song pops into my head to relieve the pressure.
